Traffic Engineering and Management is an essential subject for civil engineering students at the Kerala Technical University (KTU). This subject is included in the seventh-semester curriculum of the 2019 scheme. The subject covers six modules, including Module 1: Introduction to Traffic Engineering, Module 2: Traffic Flow Characteristics, Module 3: Traffic Studies and Surveys, Module 4: Traffic Control Devices, Module 5: Traffic Management and Module 6: Intelligent Transportation Systems.
The subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to design and manage traffic systems effectively. Students will learn about the principles of traffic engineering, traffic flow characteristics, and the different types of traffic studies and surveys. They will also learn about the various traffic control devices used to manage traffic, including traffic signals, signs, and markings. Additionally, the subject covers traffic management strategies, including traffic calming measures, parking management, and public transportation systems. Finally, students will learn about Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and how technology can be used to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
