Solid State Devices is a subject that is offered to students in the seventh semester of their undergraduate program in Electronics and Communication Engineering at KTU, Kerala. This subject deals with the study of electronic devices that are made of solid materials, such as semiconductors. The syllabus of this subject is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the principles of solid-state devices, their characteristics, and applications.

The subject is divided into six modules, each covering a different aspect of solid-state devices. Module 1 provides an introduction to the subject, including the basics of crystal structures, energy bands, and carrier transport in semiconductors. Module 2 covers the principles of p-n junctions, including their characteristics, fabrication, and applications. Module 3 deals with bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), including their characteristics, modes of operation, and applications.

Module 4 covers field-effect transistors (FETs), including their characteristics, modes of operation, and applications. Module 5 deals with optoelectronic devices, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), photodiodes, and solar cells. Finally, Module 6 covers advanced topics such as power devices, high-frequency devices, and integrated circuits.
