Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS) is a subject that deals with the design and implementation of software systems that are capable of responding to external events in a timely and predictable manner. This subject is a part of the curriculum for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering at the Kerala Technological University (KTU). The subject is covered in the seventh semester of the 2019 scheme and comprises of six modules, namely Module 1, Module 2, Module 3, Module 4, Module 5, and Module 6.

Module 1 introduces the concept of real-time systems and the challenges associated with their design and implementation. Module 2 covers the basics of task scheduling and synchronization in real-time systems. Module 3 deals with the design and implementation of real-time operating systems, including kernel architecture and system calls. Module 4 focuses on memory management and device drivers in real-time systems. Module 5 and Module 6 cover advanced topics such as real-time communication protocols, fault tolerance, and distributed real-time systems.

In addition to the six modules, the subject also includes M5-Lecture Notes, M6-Lecture Notes, and a CASESTUDY. The lecture notes provide additional information on the topics covered in the modules, while the case study allows students to apply the concepts learned in the subject to a real-world problem.
