Introduction to Mechanical Engineering is a subject that is offered to students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at KTU, Kerala. The subject is divided into six modules, each covering a different aspect of mechanical engineering. The syllabus for this subject includes topics such as engineering mechanics, engineering graphics, design engineering, and principles of management. By studying this subject, students will gain an understanding of the basic principles of mechanical engineering, as well as the skills required to design and analyze mechanical systems.
Module 1 of the subject covers the basics of engineering mechanics, including topics such as statics, dynamics, and kinematics. Students will learn about the fundamental laws of motion, as well as the principles of force, torque, and energy. Module 2 focuses on engineering graphics, which is the study of how to represent three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane. Students will learn about the different types of projections, as well as how to create and interpret engineering drawings.
Module 3 of the subject covers design engineering, which is the process of creating new products or systems. Students will learn about the different stages of the design process, as well as the tools and techniques used in engineering design. Module 4 focuses on principles of management, which is the study of how to manage people and resources in an organization. Students will learn about topics such as leadership, motivation, and communication.
Module 5 of the subject covers the principles of thermodynamics, which is the study of how energy is transferred in mechanical systems.
