Geomatics is an interdisciplinary subject that combines the principles of mathematics, computer science, and engineering to analyze and manage geospatial data. The subject covers a wide range of topics, including surveying, mapping, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and global positioning systems (GPS). At KTU, Kerala, Geomatics is offered as a core subject for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. The subject is divided into six modules, with each module covering specific topics related to geospatial data analysis and management.

Module 1 of Geomatics covers the basics of surveying, including measurement techniques, error analysis, and surveying instruments. Module 3 focuses on mapping and cartography, with topics such as map projections, scale, and map design. Module 4 deals with remote sensing, which involves the acquisition and analysis of data from satellites and other airborne sensors. Module 5 covers GIS, which is a computer-based system for capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geospatial data. Finally, Module 6 covers GPS, which is a satellite-based navigation system used for positioning and tracking.

By studying Geomatics, students will learn how to collect, process, analyze, and manage geospatial data using various tools and techniques. They will also learn how to use GIS and GPS to solve real-world problems related to land use, natural resources, transportation, and urban planning
