Functional Design of Buildings is an important subject for students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at KTU, Kerala. This subject is taught in the seventh semester and covers the fundamental principles of designing buildings that are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. The syllabus of this subject is divided into two modules, Module-1 and Module-2, and covers topics such as building codes and regulations, building materials, structural systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and fire protection systems.
Module-1 of KTU Functional Design of Buildings Notes covers the basic principles of building design, including the different types of building codes and regulations that must be followed when designing a building. Students will also learn about the different types of building materials that are commonly used in construction, as well as the different types of structural systems that can be used to support a building. This module also covers HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and electrical systems, which are all essential components of any building.
Module-2 of KTU Functional Design of Buildings Notes covers the different types of fire protection systems that are used in buildings, as well as the different types of building services that are required to maintain a building. Students will also learn about the different types of building management systems that are used to monitor and control the various systems in a building, as well as the different types of building automation systems that are used to automate various tasks
