Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a subject that is taught in the seventh semester of the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) program in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Kerala Technological University (KTU). The subject is a part of the 2019 scheme and is designed to provide students with an understanding of the environmental impact of various projects and activities. The subject is divided into six modules, each of which covers a different aspect of EIA.

MODULE 1 introduces students to the concept of EIA and its importance in the decision-making process. MODULE 2 covers the legal and regulatory framework for EIA in India, including the Environmental Protection Act and the National Green Tribunal. MODULE 3 focuses on the various stages of the EIA process, including scoping, baseline studies, impact assessment, and mitigation measures. MODULE 4 deals with the preparation of an EIA report, including the format and content of the report. MODULE 5 covers the monitoring and evaluation of the environmental impacts of a project, including the use of environmental management plans. Finally, MODULE 6 discusses the role of public participation in the EIA process and the importance of stakeholder engagement.

Through this subject, students will learn about the various environmental impacts of different projects and activities and how to assess and mitigate these impacts. They will also gain an understanding of the legal and regulatory framework for EIA in India and the importance of public participation in the decision-making process
