Design of Concrete Structures is a subject that is taught in the seventh semester of the Civil Engineering course at KTU, Kerala. The subject covers the design and analysis of concrete structures such as beams, columns, slabs, and footings. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the behavior of concrete structures under different loading conditions and to teach them how to design safe and efficient structures.

The subject is divided into six modules, each covering a different aspect of the design process. Module 1 covers the basics of reinforced concrete design, including the properties of concrete and steel, and the design of singly and doubly reinforced beams. Module 2 focuses on the design of columns and footings, while Module 3 covers the design of slabs and flat plates. Module 4 deals with the design of retaining walls, while Module 5 covers the design of prestressed concrete structures. Finally, Module 6 covers the design of special structures such as water tanks and silos.

The subject is taught using a combination of lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions. Students are expected to complete assignments and projects to demonstrate their understanding of the subject. The course is assessed through a combination of written exams and practical assessments.

The subject is an important one for civil engineering students as it provides them with the knowledge and skills required to design safe and efficient concrete structures
